This is from the Special Libraries Association Physics, Astronomy & Mathematics mailing list. All reviewers must have a mailing address in the U.S. or Canada, and must be faculty actively teaching (at two- and four-year undergraduate institutions):
CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries is recruiting new faculty reviewers for a number of academic areas. CHOICE, a publication of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association, publishes nearly 7,000 reviews annually, usually providing academic librarians and faculty with the first professional, post-publication commentary on a scholarly work. Reviewers are needed in a number of areas in the physical sciences and technology as well as the arts:
climate and weather
physics
mathematics
astronomy
earth sciences, especially earthquakes, seismology, volcanology
all art areas, for Internet site reviewing
art--installation and performance art
welding
electric motors
gas turbines
automotive technology
heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
transportation
diesel engine technology; other engines
lighting
textiles and photography
history and philosophy of science and technology
nanotechnology
materials science
microwave-based communications
electromagnetics
oceanography
cold regions/Arctic areas/Antarctica/snow and ice
electrical engineering, especially signal processing
Reviewers are not paid; however, they do keep the books they review.
Reviewers are expected to prepare a concise review of 190 words, and to complete the assignment within 5 weeks of receiving the book.
Review assignments are made at the convenience of the reviewer; reviewers inform CHOICE of the number of books they can review during any given year and their desired distribution over the year. All reviewers must have a mailing address in the U.S. or Canada, and must be faculty actively teaching (at two- and four-year undergraduate institutions). An added bonus for CHOICE would be reviewers willing to review electronic products and Internet sites as well.
Potential reviewers are asked to contact Judith A. Douville who will send along an information booklet as well as other materials to provide more details about CHOICE and the reviewing process. Alternatively, reviewers may sign up at CHOICE's Web site: http://www.choicemag.org/
Nearly 3,000 faculty from across the U.S. and Canada currently review for CHOICE, providing a valuable service to the academic and scholarly community.
Sincerely,
Judith A. Douville
