Wiley InterScience Launches Author Resources
New tools and services facilitate the research and publishing processes
Hoboken, N.J., March 1, 2006 – Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. today announced the launch of Author Resources, a suite of tools and services designed to improve the research pathway, enhance content discovery, and benefit current and
prospective authors of journal articles. Author Resources is now available through Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com), the company’s dynamic online publishing platform.
Accessible to all Wiley InterScience users, Author Resources provides general information about Wiley, the benefits of publishing on Wiley InterScience, information about submitting and tracking a manuscript through Wiley’s production process, and a suite of author tools.
“Wiley is excited to unveil Wiley InterScience Author Resources and all its accompanying features,” said Patrick Kelly, Vice President and Publishing Director, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. “These services will assist authors in conducting their research and publishing their work.”
Author Resources was developed in response to author feedback and addresses the key areas that are most important to them – access to a variety of features that support their research, and more detailed information regarding the journal publishing process.
Track My Articles, a new author tool launching in conjunction with Author Resources, facilitates the process of publishing peer-reviewed content. Available for all Wiley
InterScience journals, this feature enables authors whose articles have been accepted for publication to track the status of their article through the production process to its publication.
To access Track My Articles, authors sign up for My Profile by registering at www.interscience.wiley.com. Once registered, authors can begin to take advantage of all the features of this tool, including: a manuscript submission guide that assists authors in the process of selecting a publication to submit a manuscript to; a production tracking service that allows authors to track the progress of their
submitted manuscript from acceptance, through proofs and corrections stages, to live publication on Wiley InterScience; a publication alerting service that notifies authors by e-mail when manuscripts are published online; and a feedback area that gives authors an opportunity to critique the entire publication process once it’s been completed.
With the launch of Author Resources, Wiley is also introducing two additional author tools:
Citation Tracking – Available to licensed Wiley InterScience end-users, this new capability allows authors to view published works that have cited the article they are currently reading from content on Wiley InterScience and other publishers’ sites. This feature was developed in partnership with CrossRef® and includes links to citations from other CrossRef® publishers that offer this capability.
Citation Download – The new capability to download citations and abstracts from journal articles and online book chapters directly into reference management software, such as EndNote™.
In addition, the new Author Resources area provides easy-to-access information regarding all the existing Wiley InterScience features of interest to authors including:
Early View®, the service that provides online access to full text, peer-reviewed, copyedited articles as soon as they are complete and before they appear in print; Table of Contents (TOC) Alerts, e-mail notifications sent to authors when a journal’s latest issue is published online; Saved Search Alerts, e-mail notifications sent to authors when content appears online that matches previously saved searches;
MobileEdition®, the service that provides tables of contents and abstracts from the latest issues of selected journals delivered directly to a PDA device; and Roaming Access, a crucial option in today’s mobile culture, this service enables remote password access to full-text licensed content from a laptop or web-enabled computer from anywhere in the world.
“We’ll continue to develop new tools and services based on author feedback,” added Kelly, “and we’re confident these services will greatly enhance our authors’ overall publishing experience with Wiley.”
