ScienceDirect (from Elsevier) articles improved for iOS and Android

Elsevier has improved its ScienceDirect mobile interface to make reading articles on a tablet/phablet/phone easier. Changes include saving articles/references to Mendeley and RefWorks, and the ability to view references without leaving the article.
(The usual "authenticate through the library first" instructions still apply.)

Access to ScienceDirect for new, unemployed PhDs

If you've received your PhD within the last 5 years, and are unemployed, you have till August 31 to apply for access to ScienceDirect, Elsevier's platform for ebooks and journals.

Elsevier Acquires Knovel

The UofC Library subscribes to several of Elsevier's products, including Scopus, and its journals via ScienceDirect. We also subscribe to Knovel, a suite of science and engineering handbooks.

Scopus Visit

Faculty and students are invited to an event hosted by Elsevier/Scopus. It is a come-and-go event where one can ask our Elsevier reps questions about Scopus. Lunch will be provided.

12:30-2:30 pm

Topics may include:
- General Scopus overview
- Focus on A&H content (but feel free to ask about Sci/Tech content!)
- Marketing ideas & usage

ScienceDirect (Elsevier) Content and Google/Google Scholar

Basically, Elsevier has allowed Google to crawl its ScienceDirect content. So, the next time you search Google or Google Scholar, you just might get some results for ScienceDirect journals. A comprehensive crawl will take some time though. We'll see how this goes.

Remember, if you are using Google Scholar, access it via the Library's Research Databases page. That way, you'll get the SFX button for linking to full-text:

ScienceDirect (Elsevier) Unavailable Saturday, March 3

ScienceDirect will be unavailable again tomorrow (Saturday, March 3rd) for approximately 9 hours starting at 06:30 AM EST (11:30 GMT). The changes are necessary to improve the performance of ScienceDirect and to ensure a high level of reliability in the coming years
